An evening with Steven.
Tenby Camera Club is very pleased to welcome back Steven Clarey, who will no doubt once again thrill us with his stories and high-octane antics in both the photographic and videographic fast lane. Steven has become a favourite of ours, and I will post a title and intro along with a picture should I ever get one from him, as conforming is not on his agenda, which makes his presentations so unpredictable and compelling to come along to. I just hope he behaves a little lol.

An introduction to the flowering plants (and lichens, fungi & ferns) that brighten our lives in Pembrokeshire. The talk will highlight the beauty of the plants and their allies but will also include some ecology, history, myths & legends and medicinal uses.

A walk through Bradgate Park.
I’m a photographer with a real passion for the outdoors, wildlife, and landscapes, and Bradgate Park has been central to that for many years. I’ve been visiting the park for over 15 years and now volunteer there as a photographer, which has given me a good understanding of its character and the opportunities it offers. My images from Bradgate have received considerable recognition over time, including regular selection for the Bradgate Park calendar, and more recently, I was delighted to have an image chosen for this year’s BBC Countryfile Calendar.
Bradgate Park in Leicestershire is a remarkable landscape that combines rolling hills, ancient oak trees, free-roaming herds of red and fallow deer, and a rich sense of history. It’s a location that offers both scale and subtlety, rewarding those who take the time to look a little more closely. In this talk, I’ll take you on a gentle photographic walk through the park, highlighting areas of interest along with some of the flora and fauna that make it such a compelling place to explore. The aim is to offer both inspiration for your photography and practical insight, helping you to plan your own visits and make the most of the opportunities Bradgate Park has to offer.

A digital-only Mono comp, featuring a portrait of any animal or insect showing head and shoulders, it should be a square format of 30 cm x 30cm with a darkened background. The four pictures that work well will be featured and entered in the memorial mono external competition.

Wildlife and travels in Namibia.
Namibia is one of my favourite destinations, and I have been fortunate in visiting the country on four occasions. This talk will look at a combination of the last two journeys, one of which was an overland travel from South Africa through the Kalahari Desert. Namibia has an incredible variety of dry habitats, including an ancient desert, the Namib, and the Skeleton Coast with huge colonies of sea lions. Inland regions like the Etosha National Park are home to big game animals like lions and elephants, but there are plenty of smaller reserves scattered around the country, such that Namibia has more wild cheetahs than any other. There are also plenty of lesser-known birds and reptiles to complement weird and wonderful vegetation: quiver trees and rare 1000-year-old Welwitschias. It is also a country that is easy to explore on your own in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Photographs of the stunning landscapes, unusual vegetation and amazing wildlife will depict why Namibia is such a brilliant adventure.

The use of light in street photography.
Our very own successful street photographer, Gillian MacKay will be joining us to present her talk about the importance of light both in colour and B/W photography. She will explore the genre of fine art street photography with its high contrast B/W look. Light can create mood and impact and this will be explored. Gillian has been very successful in the
street photography world and has also been a finalist in The British Photographer Awards in 2024 and 2025.

We welcome Tesni Ward to the club for the first time. Tesni will be presenting her wildlife masterclass, where she will be covering some of the most important aspects, tips, and tricks for improving your wildlife photography. From finding locations, working in various light conditions, compositional guidelines, and why it is important to find your own style and approach when developing your own portfolio. Mick will be taking us to Antarctica, South Georgia, the Falklands and South America on the Penguin trail. As he presents us with his talk on Penguins, the air-breathing feathered fish, or at least that is what they were thought to be many years ago. Mick is a first-class speaker and photographer who has extensively travelled the world collecting information and photographic images that he will share with us all. It will be a great evening.

We welcome back Allen Lloyd once more to HQ Allen is a firm favourite of ours who continually impresses us all with both the quality of his images and the diversity of his skills and what can be achieved. This season we will be looking at starry landscapes where you will be amazed at what the camera with the right settings and control can actually see and what can be achieved in the night sky.
